If you’ve taken a look at our Instagram profile, you’ll know that we’re big fans of colour here at Bloombees. So much so that we’re dedicating an entire blog post to it! At the beginning of 2016, PANTONE announced their Colour of the Year. And for the first time ever, they announced a combination of two different shades, instead of just one – Rose Quartz and Serenity.
Rose Quartz is a dusty pink: “persuasive yet gentle, a shade that conveys compassion and composure.” Meanwhile, its counterpart Serenity is a cool and tranquil blue that is “weightless, airy and brings respite and relaxation.” Two shades that combine in perfect harmony and that have a calm and soothing effect.
At a time when people are looking for mindfulness and wellbeing in their modern, stressful lives, these two colours represent a need for calm and respite. The combination of shades also challenges traditional perceptions of colour. As the fashion industry experiences a gender blur, colour trends are also seeing a change and this blend of Rose Quartz and Serenity mirrors our own societal movements toward gender equality.
Our very own merchants are already using the Colour of the Year in their designs. STEVE MONO is using similar pastels in his leather bags and purses, while our latest addition ABE THE APE paints ceramic plates in a hue that looks a lot like Rose Quartz.
Pantone’s two-in-one Colour of the Year offers extra pairings and is a first in the trend-setting business. Compared to last year’s dark burgundy Marsala or the bright and flashy Tangerine Tango of 2012, the Rose Quartz and Serenity duo is a relaxing and comforting change.
